Avril Bowie

Avril Bowie has been fascinated with glass since she was a child, tall enough to peer over her father’s work desk and into the depths of a paperweight sitting there. The mystery and the beauty of glass never left her and this interest for glass was reignited when introduced to glass bead making as an adult.

Today, Avril makes glass beads by hand, one by one over a flame in her inner city studio. Her large glossy beads are carefully created and inspired by nature, sea life, fashion, craft and by the glass itself.

Influenced by her time spent in Murano, Italy, Avril’s beads are hollow making them a lighter weight ┬áto wear. This feature also highlights the transparency and beauty of the glass colours.

Avril sources glass from around the world to find the right colours and effects to produce truly unique pieces in limited runs and of high quality.
